Pre-Construction
September 2008

Site 1    Site 2

This concrete crossing (also called an “Arizona crossing”) on Gobernador Creek provides vehicle access,

but has created an eroded channel and a barrier to fish migration.

The restoration project will break up the Arizona crossing, replace it with a bridge, and restore a natural creek channel.

Pool

Water collects in the pool of water at the downstream end of the Arizona crossing.

Local biologists and habitat restoration experts prepare to capture

and relocate fish from this pool before construction begins.

Dewatering     Dewatered

A system of pumps and hoses is used to remove water from the site.

As the water level drops, fish are captured.

 Fish

More than 100 fish were taken out of the construction site and moved upstream to safer waters.

     Screen     Flow

A temporary wire screen is installed upstream to prevent fish from drifting back into the construction site.

The pumps and hoses are removed, and water begins to flow again.

CCC

Members of the California Conservation Corps set up a “silt fence” around the site to

prevent sedimentation and to reduce wildlife moving into the construction area.

A big "Thank You" to the Conservation Corps for their help getting this project started!
